Maximizing Business Growth with Podcasting Strategies
Welcome back to The PBP.fm Show! In this episode, I’m joined once again by Kevin Rundle, my recording buddy and a seasoned marketer. Today, we continue our Ten Commandments of Podcasting series, focusing on the 10th commandment: Thou Shalt Drive To An Action. For anyone aiming to use their podcast to generate real business results, this episode is packed with essential insights and strategies.
Why Driving to an Action Matters
In the world of business podcasting, the ultimate goal often goes beyond entertaining your audience. It’s about driving tangible results—whether that means generating leads, closing sales, or building strategic partnerships. To achieve this, every episode should include a clear call to action (CTA) that guides your listeners towards a specific outcome. This is what separates a hobby podcast from a strategic business tool.
Types of Podcasts and Their Goals
First, we differentiate between two types of podcasts: media podcasts and strategic influence podcasts. Media podcasts are those where the podcast itself is the business, aiming to attract large audiences and generate revenue through advertisements. Examples include popular shows like Joe Rogan and The Daily Wire.
In contrast, strategic influence podcasts aim to build attention and authority in the marketplace to drive leads and sales for an existing business. For such podcasts, the focus is on creating valuable content that not only attracts listeners but also encourages them to take actions that benefit your business.
Three Ways to Drive Revenue
1. Advertisements: While ads are more common in media podcasts, strategic influence podcasts can also benefit from self-sponsored ads. These are short segments within the episode where you promote your own services or products. The goal is to make your audience aware of what you offer and how they can take advantage of it.
2. Direct Sales: One of the powerful ways to leverage your podcast is by inviting potential high-value clients as guests. This provides an opportunity to build a relationship, demonstrate your expertise, and eventually convert the guest into a client. The key is to do this in a way that feels natural and mutually beneficial, rather than pushy or salesy.
3. Networking and Partnerships: Your podcast is also a great platform for networking. By inviting potential strategic partners, you create opportunities to build relationships that can lead to referral partnerships, joint ventures, and other forms of collaborative business. The key is to identify how your business overlaps with theirs and discuss these synergies on the show.
Crafting Effective Calls to Action
There are two main types of CTAs that should be included in your podcast episodes:
1. Soft Call to Action: This involves asking your audience to take actions that keep them engaged with your content, such as subscribing to your podcast, liking the episode, or following you on social media. These CTAs should be present in every episode to help grow your audience.
2. Hard Call to Action: These are more direct and involve asking your audience to take an action that moves them further down the sales funnel. Examples include downloading a lead magnet, scheduling a strategy call, or purchasing a product. The key is to ensure that these CTAs are relevant and provide clear value to your audience.
Making the Ask: Pre-Interview and Post-Interview Strategies
Before the interview, take the time to understand your guest’s business and goals. This not only helps you tailor the conversation but also allows you to identify opportunities for providing value. During this pre-interview chat, subtly introduce your own services and ask if it’s okay to explain what your company does.
After the interview, use the post-interview time to further build the relationship. Share valuable resources related to the guest’s business challenges and express your interest in potential collaborations. This approach helps maintain the momentum and paves the way for future business opportunities.
Conclusion: Transform Your Podcast Strategy
Driving action through your podcast is all about being strategic and intentional with every episode. Whether through advertisements, direct sales, or networking, incorporating effective CTAs helps you convert listeners into clients and partners. By following the principles discussed in this episode, you can elevate your podcast from a simple show to a powerful business tool.
